Dragon Ride

What is your overall impression of the book?

Dragon Ride: True Stories of Adventure, Miracles, and Evangelism from ChinaDragon Ride: True Stories of Adventure, Miracles, and Evangelism from China by Grace Jacob
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I like how instead of just starting already in the mission field, Grace Jacob tells people in the book what happens before she decided to be a missionary to China. It starts with her coming home from school when she was in eleventh grade. There are actually four chapters until Grace actually goes to China. Another thing is that she tells us what caused her to want to go to China. How and when she went. I like how she put certain stories from her missionary experience China in her book. Some are adventurous, some are fun, some are funny and some little stories are daring but some are also sad, frightening, frustrating and dangerous. I think one of the daring and adventurous things was when Grace went to a Prison Camp. You can read more about that in the chapter Prison Camp. there are also sad parts like when Grace has to wait a long time before her Chinese friends become Christians or when her friends abort their babies. I think that that they was Grace's book can also give information on what missionary life then was like. Overall, I think Dragon Ride is a very good book.

What is the book about?

This book is about a family, including a mom, dad and two sons, who are missionaries to China. They have a lot of exciting adventures and lots of fun, but the also have some scary times. Grace can show you what some missionaries were facing in almost modern times in China. Much more recent then Lottie Moon.

Who are the main characters in the book?

There are two main characters. Those two characters are Grace Jacob and her husband, Justin Jacob. Grace first becomes bad in the beginning and then later becomes an atheist. Unlike most atheists, Grace wishes that Christianity is real because her parents faith was very pretty. Then, she eventually becomes a Christian and later marries a man named Justin Jacob. They then go to Hong Kong with their boys. They stay there for a while and then travel on to Mainland China. The stayed in Hong Kong and Mainland China in all for 29 years. Justin Jacob is Grace's husband. When he first met her, they had started arguing almost immediately. They both wanted to be missionaries to China but Justin's Mandarin tutor and Grace's Chinese teacher had taught them different things. They later went to Hong Kong, married, with their two sons, Nigel and Adam and later go to Mainland China.

What is your favorite part of the book?

My favorite part of the book is when Doris thinks that she and Grace should keep it a secret that they shouldn't tell anyone that Jesus died for them. I like it because it's really funny that Grace thought that it could be their secret. Besides, Grace had went to China to preach how they can have a good relationship with God.

What is your favorite character?

My favorite character is Grace Jacob because she is the one who wrote the book and she is the main character. I also like her because she went to China to preach the gospel, and some people in China became Christians because of her work there, including Doris, Carol, Maria, Janna and some other people.

Who would you recommend/not recommend this book to?

I would recommend this book to people who like adventure because they have so many adventures in China. I would also recommend this to people who like to know what missionary life is in almost modern times. I also noticed that Dragon ride is much different than Lottie Moon even though Lottie and Grace were both missionaries to China. I have another book report on Lottie Moon here. I wouldn't recommend this to people who like everything to go perfect. I also wouldn't recommend this book to people who want a book that's setting is focusing on some where out of China. Even though Grace grew up in the United States, most of the book is in China so that is why I think you wouldn't like this book if you want a book that's in the United States.
