The Silent Girl (Chapter 15)

Well, nothing, except a giant bird! “What bird is that big,” Clara exclaimed in amazement. I nodded, to tell her I agreed, and Clara asked, “Do you think we should tell Uncle Harry?” I didn’t know, so I shrugged. What if this bird had broken in and uncle Harry called the thing that takes away animals? Whatever that is. Or worse, killed the bird? I shuddered, which I seemed to be doing a lot today. Then I turned to Clara, and slowly shook my head, no.   I walked to the window, and blew my breath on it, so that it fogged. Then I wrote with my finger, “What if uncle Harry doesn’t like birds? I don’t want to risk the bird's life!” This was just a temporary way to communicate with others and keep the bird safe. Unfortunately, there weren't very many windows even though there were a lot of other things. The

Some events may be based on real life, but some events are made up.  As I burst into the room, I sniffed out a disgusting smell, a combination of dust and garlic. I didn’t really like this new smell, it somehow made me queasy and suspicious. My eyes darted around the room, and I realized it was total chaos! I wondered why nobody else was coming, I especially wondered why the grownups weren’t coming, but I quickly pushed those thoughts aside, I had to help Clara! I decided to get help, before Clara got all of her face buried! (The Muck was already all the way up to her chin!) Muck was a kind of bird food that looked and felt like mud. It also smelled really bad for some reason. I ran to Ye Ye and Nai Nai's room, and pounded the door, which hurt a lot, but I didn’t care. If Clara died, that would be horrible, I couldn't let that happen! Finally Ye Ye opened the door, frowned and said, “Why all the racke

By now, you likely have read  "The Silent Girl"  and  "That Math Girl,"  but if not, you should definitely read them. With that being said, let's get started.  - Makes Tech Team    I had wanted to take better science classes than what my school offered, so I Zoomed into a Portland class. It would mean taking the class even when our school was out of session, but I would get a better education. Plus, I also got some extra time to do some programming or research on Saturdays. (Our school is only in session on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays since the local teachers teach at another school on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.) Mrs. Munchie told us what to expect and got right into teaching. She gave a lecture while I took notes. Occasionally, a student asked a question, which Mrs. Munchie answered. The only problem was that Mrs. Munchie really lived up to her name. She was continually munching away on snacks!   Finally, she explained our homework and where to

I know everything about Florida.", Hayden said.            ¹ "Wo men yao qv ri ben. Ni men hui kan shu gong. Ta shi Ye Ye de di di.", ² Nai Nai said. (We are going to Japan. You guys are going to meet your grand uncle. He is grandpa's little brother.) "You guys can also cheer up from your dad's death…," Ye Ye said and then his voice trailed off.            This is a cool surprise. I would have never in my lifetime guessed that I would ever get to go to Japan or anywhere else outside of America for that matter. I wonder if ³ Ye Ye's younger brother will be nice and I wonder if there will be a scary thing. Scary things always seemed to happen when we left ou

It seemed that this always happened to me. I guess I would just have to wait until another time. Basically whenever I had time. I then felt my tummy grumble, so the thought of breakfast was a little more appealing to me.      I walked over to the dining room and sat down next Isabella and Ava (my older sister). We all sat in the dining room because we were too large to fit at our tiny kitchen table and it would take too long to go outside on our picnic tables. I looked around our dining room table. Everyone was here except the two dead dads. Everyone included ¹Ye Ye, ²Nai Nai, my mom, my aunt, Ava, Malachi, Austin, Isabella, me, and Hayden. We all made a huge family.      Ye Ye now prayed because he was the oldest
