Animal of Week: Chickens

Fast Facts:

Chickens are a relatively common backyard pet. Many people that don't like to have pets in their home like to have chickens, since they are an outdoor pet. Chickens are more than just than outdoor pet though, they can be very helpful as well. They can help you by providing eggs, incubating chicken eggs (or other bird eggs), eating pests, providing feathers, and providing fertilizer. Many backyard gardeners are adding chickens to their collections, so the they can have fresh eggs during the Covid-19 era. Don't think that taking care of chickens is all a walk in the park though, since there can be many disadvantages. Some of these include lots of poop, attracting flies, loud sounds, possible alarm in the morning, a lot of work, they take up a lot room, eat up your garden, and can get in your way.

Chicken Poem:

The Mighty Hatching

Emerging from its mother's wing,
It Stomps around as if its King,
First it pounces on a bug,
Then it gobbles up a slug,
Behold the chick that's born in spring!

Chicken Jokes:

Q: Why couldn't the farmer catch the chicken?
A: Because the chicken was so scared that it lost all its feathers. The feathers fell on the farmer, so he gave up.

Scientist: Did you bring all you science equipment?
Chicken: Of Course!
Scientist: Even your beaker?
Chicken: I always carry my beak with me.

Have you ever wondered if the chicken or the egg came first? What about wondering if the chick or the chicken came first? Everyone knows that chicks grow into chickens, but chicks are in chickens.

Make sure to come back next week, so that you can see more animals!!!
