Animal of the Week: Giant Panda

This is a drawing of a panda that was drawn by Mei Makes.

Fast Facts:

A giant panda is bear that is black and white. It lives in a few mountain ranges in south central China, mainly in Sichuan province, but also in the Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. 99% of a giant panda's diet is bamboo. Giant panda adults can eat 12-38 kilograms of bamboo in one day! That means they can eat up to 266 kilograms of bamboo in a week. They occasionally eat other grasses, wild tubers, or even meat in the form birds, rodents or carrion. Did you know that newborn baby pandas are pink and often as small as a hotdog. Giant pandas do certainly live up to their name. They can be 4-6 feet tall, which as tall as many adult humans. They sleep for about ten hours a day. Female pandas can weigh 150-220 pounds and average males weigh 220-254 pounds. Bamboo is high in fiber but doesn't have that much nutrients. That's one of the reasons why they have to eat so much bamboo.

Giant Panda Poem:

Having a crunch and a munch,
First one and then two,
Oh, how bamboo sure tastes good!

Giant Panda Jokes:
