Little Town on the Prairie

What is your overall impression of the book?

Little Town on the Prairie (Little House, #7)Little Town on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I like how there is a lot of detail. I think it is nice to know what it was like when there were still a lot of settlers in The United States of America. Her story has a lot of ups and downs and she doesn't seem to hold anything back. She is not afraid to tell bad things she did. I also like how the even has some songs that Laura's Pa played on his fiddle and sang. Over all Laura has a very happy life.

What is the book about?

This book is about a girl named Laura who was born on 1867 and died on 1957. She was born in a log cabin in the woods of Wisconsin. She lived in Dakota Territory. She has one older sister named Mary. She also so has two younger sisters, Carrie and Grace. Carrie has blond hair like Mary. Grace is spoiled because she is the youngest and the Ingalls aren't going through hard times. Her main friends are Ida Brown, Mary Power and Minnie.

Who are the main characters in the book?

The main characters are Mary, Laura, Carrie, Grace, Pa and Ma the book. Mary is blind and Laura gets a job so Mary can go to a collage for the blind. Laura is almost fifteen years old. She sticks up to her sisters. Like the time when she rocked the bench so much because the teacher was being mean to Carrie, her younger sister, and Carrie couldn't rock the bench anymore. Carrie was also turning pale. You can read more about that in Chapter Fourteen. (In your own copy of the book here.) Carrie has blond hair like Mary. Grace is spoiled because she is the youngest and the Ingalls aren't going through hard times. (The Ingalls go through hard times in Laura's other books.)

What is your favorite part of the book?

My favorite part of the book was when the kitten caught her first mouse. Laura had tried to grab her but she held on fast. The mouse was nearly as big as the kitten. The mouse was as full-grown and strong as that mouse would probably get.

What is your favorite character?

My favorite character in the book was Mary Ingalls because she didn't complain when she got blind. (See Laura's other books here, if you want to read about Mary getting blind.) I also liked her because she is very nice.

Who would you recommend/not recommend this book to?

I would recommend this this book to people who like stories and nonfiction. Even though realistic fiction isn't nonfiction, I think people who like realistic and historical fiction will also like this book. I wouldn't recommend this book to people that like stories that are exciting. These people will get bored with the day to day life of  the Ingalls.
