Ava's face was blank. This was not what I thought would happen. I thought she would gasp or something. She just stood the staring at everybody. Everybody stared back at her.

I might also want to add that Ava was a very strong believer in God, but I hadn't expected this to happen.

Finally Ava said, "What is going on?"

Maybe I was wrong. Maybe this wasn't because she was a really strong believer.

"Um... isn't it your birthday today?", asked Ku Ku¹. (Ku Ku is one of Ava's friends that was at the party.)

Ava started laughing. She laughed so hard that she fell face first onto the carpet.

That's when Ava's mom fainted. I hadn't been looking. After dinner, Clara told me that she had seen her mom's face turn white. Her dad quickly carried her mom to their room and Ava stopped laughing.

"Why did she faint?", Ku Ku asked.''

"She probably figured out something we don't know.", answered Clara.

She then asked Ava, 'Why were you laughing so much?"

Instead of answering her question, Ava said, "Look at your calendar."

Clara walked over to the calendar, in the living room, and stared at it. She wore a weird expression on her face. She let out a little moan. This was not like Clara. She always tried not to make any annoying sounds. This was becoming a weird day. First, Ava laughing so much. Then, Ava's mom fainted. And finally, Clara letting out a little moan. Clara walked over to Ava, still wearing her funny expression.

"I'm sorry. We thought that it was your birthday, since the months on the calendar were messed up." Clara apologized. It turned out that the boys had worked together to build a fan in the living room, but when they tested it out, they messed up the months on the calendar. When Clara saw the spring flowers, she knew that it was actually late summer, not early spring.

"Dui bu qi².", Nai Nai³ added.

"It's okay. There is nothing to be sorry about. It was just a mistake." Ava said.

"What are we going to do with the cake?", Hayden wanted to know.

"I know, lets make a day called 'Funny Family Day'. It can be FFD for short. We can even eat orange cake and remember today.", Malachi suggested.

"Lets do it! I can't wait to eat the orange cake!", Austin agreed. He was rubbing his tummy to show how hungry he was.

Hayden ran around yelling, "Cake! Cake!"

"Can we do it Nai Nai?", Malachi said in a pleading voice.

Nai Nai pointed at Ava and said, "Wen ta.⁴"

"It's a great idea. We should start today.", Ava answered in reply to the boys questioning looks.

"Wait, I have one more question. Why did you go to the adult service with the adults?" Clara asked.

"Oh, that. All of the leaders took some of the kids on a mission trip to Asia. This left the rest of the kids to have to go to the adult service.", Ava answered.

"Can we eat the cake now?", Hayden asked.

We all laughed and sat down. The cake was wonderful and the orange frosting was so creamy. I think it was worth all the horrible sifting to eat the cake. The layers were so beautiful. The cake was gone in a few minutes, since most of the party guests had stayed. (These guests included Ming and Ku Ku.)

When the dishes were cleaned and the party guests had left, we were all exhausted. We all decide to have an afternoon nap. Surprisingly, even Hayden wanted to take a nap. As far as I can remember, Hayden hadn't taken a nap, since he was four years old.

I woke up to the smell of freshly baked biscuits. I jumped out of bed and headed over to the kitchen. I found Nai Nai making chicken pot pie. Clara was putting the biscuits, that I had smelled, on a plate. Ava was stirring together a fruit salad. It has been a long day and it was almost over!

Translations:

¹ Ku Ku means crying. She got her name, since she cried all day and all night when she was a baby. Her parents were so tired after having her, that they couldn't handle another child. This is why Ku Ku is an only child.
² Sorry
³ Grandma
⁴ Ask her

  1. Wow, imagine growing up with "Ku Ku" as your official nickname! Glad to see that Ava handled things in good spirits after all.

Question: why did Clara and Ava's Mom faint?

    1. Ku Ku is actually her official name. Clara and Ava's mom fainted, since she figured out that it wasn't actually Ava's birthday. Keep watching for part 6 of "The Silent Girl".
